Christmas Stocking Pattern
Ingebretsen’s is celebrating its 100th Anniversary! In honor of 100 years on Lake Street in South Minneapolis, our design team has been busy planning special anniversary merchandise. In-house graphic designer and knitting teacher, Kate Running designed a Christmas stocking featuring the opening year (1921), this year (2021), and the Ingebretsen’s logo.
The pattern is available for sale, as well as part of a Stocking Kit with the wool yarn included. This stocking is for an intermediate to advanced level knitter and is knit toe-up in the round. The majority of this pattern uses colorwork. For two of the more advanced techniques, Kate has made tutorial videos on how to do a Turkish Cast On and making a German Short Row Heel.
The image chart for the bulk of the design is customizable! Add your own special date, image, or name. You can also mix and match the colors to your liking. All three yarn colors in Rauma Strikkegarn (green, red, and white) are included in the kit.
Kate has been knitting since she was twelve years old, taught by her Norwegian grandmother, Esther Holleque, at her mom’s (Sarah Kristine Holleque Running) persuading. With over twenty years of knitting experience under her belt and a degree in graphic design, Kate designs her own patterns, inspired by her family. You can see her full teacher profile here!
“I knit the stocking as a gift for Julie (Ingebretsen) last Christmas. The stocking was a hit, and we thought others would enjoy the pattern as well. I wanted to design something special for the store’s anniversary. Many people think of Ingebretsen’s during Christmas time, so a stocking seemed like the perfect project! The Huset logo to me is a cozy symbol of home and community, which I’m most grateful for during the holidays. The pattern includes a number, alphabet, and blank chart for an option to make a more personalized stocking.”
Now is a great time to begin making Christmas knits. See Ingebretsen’s collection of craft kits here to get you started! You can also find individual patterns for sale here and of course the selection of yarns here.
